they were sexually active about a year before that.
- One in five people have an STD in the United States.
Abstinence is the best way to assure yourself you are not going to get a sexually transmitted
disease or have an unplanned teenage pregnancy. By allowing yourself to be abstinent, you are staying true to yourself and
your body. A lot of teenagers who decide to become sexually active wish that they could have waited. Waiting until marriage
is a responsible decision that some teens choose to make.

- Sexual abstinence is avoding sexual
activity until marriage. People use the term abstinence in different ways. For some, it means avoiding only sexual intercourse.
For others, it means avoiding all kinds of sexual activity usually until marriage.
- There are abstinence organizations
that offer pledges to people who know they want to do this. Participants
sign a form that states they will wait until marriage. Some of these organizations are tied in with churchs or schools.
